It is with great pleasure that we announce the scheduling of Bishop Sam Jacobs to celebrate our Healing Mass in the Diocese of Tyler on August 19, 2009.
Most Reverend Sam G. Jacobs was installed as Bishop of Houma-Thibodaux in 2003 after serving fourteen years as bishop for the Diocese of Alexandria. Bishop Jacobs was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Philosophy and a graduate degree in Education/Administration from The Catholic University of America. He has served on numerous committees for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and is currently a member of the Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis.
Bishop Sam is very active in the charismatic renewal. He is a frequent and inspirational conference speaker.
Life in the Spirit Conference 2010
The second annual Life in the Spirit
Conference was held at St. Mary Magdalene in Flint, TX on April 30-
May 2. Fr. Bob Hogan, service committee member for the National
Catholic Charismatic Conference was our featured speaker and shared
from his heart on the love of the Holy Spirit for all mankind but
especially for those who are open. Fr. Bob’s personal stories of
how the Holy Spirit has guided and directed him showed a depth of
relationship and love of the Lord. He was a very holy and transparent
man!
Fr. Bob is from the community of the
Brothers of the Beloved Disciple in San Antonio and has a long
history of service to the Church and the Charismatic Renewal. Our
conference opened with a Healing Mass on Friday night. Fr. Bob had
previously taught the Diocese of Tyler priests on Clergy study day on
Thursday. Fr. Bob shared about Having a New Heart in Christ, Prayer
as a New Creation and Becoming a New Creation in Christ. He also was
celebrant at the Vigil and Sunday masses for St. Mary Magdalene
Parish.
Deacon Gary Trevino from St. Andrews,
Lufkin shared on “My Salvation in Jesus Christ”. Deacon Gary
shared of his life as a cradle Catholic but not really knowing the
person of Jesus and when he finally accepted his Lordship, how that
had changed everything about him. Many could relate to his wonderful
and touching story.
Josh Langer’s topic on “Power from
On High” prepared us for the evening service with Adoration and a
beautiful message from Fr. Bob about letting Jesus be in the driver’s
seat of our life. We ended the service with ministry time for all.
Next year our Conference will again be
between Easter and Pentecost on April 29-May1, 2011
Charismatic Prayer Group

It happened in the late 60's through the 80's. The Catholic Charismatic “renewal.” Here in the millennium, the Charismatic Catholics in the Diocese of Tyler, TX were kind of underground, or even hibernating. As we started a new Charismatic group for English speaking, we found many of those in our group had turned to the protestants for their spiritual growth for many years.
Many of us are new to the Catholic Church, have come back to the Catholic Church. We all decided the Catholic church is the fullest expression of God's will on earth.
The flame in the red Eucharist candle is igniting the hearts of those God brings to us. There is joy in the camp. We sense a revival beginning, although small. There is a hunger for more of God. Our prayer group is solid and the Holy Spirit is strong. We are praying for God to have His way in this Diocese. You can join us the second Monday of each month in Tyler at St. Paul's Chapel.
We spent time sharing what God is doing in the diocese and in our lives. Then we gather around the tabernacle and lift our hearts to heaven.

Healing Mass Held August 10
A Healing Mass for Cancer victims was held, Monday, August 10, 2009 at St. Mary Magdalene, Flint, TX. Father Timothy Kelly officiated.
This night began with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with beautiful worship music provided by Angela Krusi from Garden Valley, TX. This set the tone to receive ministry from the Lord during this service.
Fr. Phi Nguyen from the Diocese of Houston shared his message of healing from cancer and God’s provision for healing from the scriptures.
This was followed by the Mass. Catholics consider the Lord’s Supper to be the central mystery of the faith. It is the highest form of Christian prayer and a uniting of the whole church, gathered to worship Jesus, our high priest (Heb 7:26).
Anointing with oil and the laying on of hands (Mk 6:13) by the priests continued the service. We know that Christians will see the power of God manifest in healing when we pray in expectant faith and call upon his healing power. Personal ministry followed as the saints of God gathered around one another and continued to pray.
The Sacrament of Healing has been practiced since the earliest days of the Church. The Second Vatican Council restored an emphasis on prayer for physical and spiritual healing for all seriously ill people. Jesus commanded his apostles to anoint and pray for healing for the sick. The Church recognizes the power that has been at work through this ministry.
This sacrament does not guarantee healing in any particular way and we know that many scriptures point to sharing in the suffering of Christ (Rom 8:16, 17; Col. 1:24; 2 Tim 2:11,12; l Pet. 4:13; 2 Cor 4:16-18) but our God is a healing God and He does respond to the prayers of his children.
We look forward to many more such Healing Masses within the Diocese of Tyler and know that God is on the move to bring revival to His people.
