The best time to reach a young person for Christ is before
they wander off on their own into the world and make choices they wish they
hadn’t.In the Diocese of Tyler we are
linking up ministries with Youth With a Mission (YWAM). They are a powerful
ministry that has been in
East Texas since the
early 80’s.
This Fall's Youth Aflame Retreat Nov 5-7, 2010 was
awesome. 23 Catholic youth and two church leaders spent the weekend at
YWAM's SST Village. They were taught and challenged by four spirit
filled teachers, including a humorous 30 something priest with braces! The youth stayed in small cabins with bunk beds, participated in fun games and fellowship. There was great live music. We had adoration, prayer, confession, Mass. Most of all they got in touch with God. This retreat gave the students a taste for our 2 week Summer of Service and Training camp, SST, where they train in this village for one week then travel to Houston for a full week of actual evangelization on the streets. This retreat was coordinated for the Diocese of Tyler by Kerygma Texas, a branch of Youth With a Mission.
